Tri-Star Sports is a Go!
The Optimist International Caribbean District during the month of May has been fully engaged in the Tri-Star Sports initiative, which is one of the several worthwhile projects under the Optimist International umbrella.
Tri-Star Sports is an initiative by Optimist International designed to teach youth between the ages of 8 and 13, three skills in an identified sport. The Optimist Club of George Town, as part of the Caribbean District, will be focusing on netball and football/soccer, as is the District, and will also add boxing as a third sport. Tri-Star Sports brings together youth of all capabilities in a spirit of fun competition. Each skill offers exciting opportunities to promote self‐confidence and physical fitness.
Following in the footsteps of Jamaica (May 11th) and Antigua (May 18th), Cayman Islands will join with Barbados in hosting its Tri-Star event on May 25th at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
The event will run from 9 am until 12 noon. Boys and girls aged 8 to 13 will be rotated through the 3 sports for an hour each, learning 3 skills of the particular sport, and undergoing an assessment of those skills. The coaches will follow a prescribed plan of skills training and assessment as set out by Optimist International or Optimist Caribbean District. This will be followed by a presentation of prizes based on the assessment of the skills.
