Types of Membership

Club Member
As Members of Optimist Clubs, individuals have the opportunity to "Bring Out the Best in Kids" along with other like-minded citizens. Through an Optimist Club, volunteers can answer the needs of local youth by organizing meaningful service projects. To pass the idea of becoming an Optimist along to someone you know, see the Membership Brochure, or have them fill out a Member Invitation.

Life Member
Life Membership is an honor often bestowed by a Club on an Optimist who has shown years of dedication to the Club and the organization. Optimists can also enroll themselves in Life Membership. Through Life Membership, a one-time fee is paid and the Optimist pays lower dues for life. See the Life Member Application for additional information.

College Member
Any Optimist Member who is enrolled as a full-time college student (minimum of 12 credit hours) is eligible to have their annual dues reduced.

First Responders
Police officers, firemen, EMTs, and other first responders serve their communities in stressful and potentially traumatic situations every day. As they move from crisis to safety, they demonstrate resilience hour by hour, day by day, and week by week. In honor of their service, Optimist International invites these special citizens to become members of a local Optimist Club. For only $30 for their first year of membership, first responders may join an Optimist Club and share their experience with other civic-minded individuals.

Participation in Junior Optimist International gives young people the opportunity to serve their communities. Students who are involved in Junior Optimist Clubs learn about and practice good citizenship, teamwork, communication and money management. They feel good about themselves and have high self-esteem. Membership in Junior Optimist Clubs helps to develop friendships with others who share the same interests. There are opportunities for personal growth and leadership positions at Club, District, and International levels. Junior Optimist exposes Members to Optimism as a philosophy of life, provides Members with an improved sense of kindness, increased awareness for those in need, and a better sense of coping with cultural diversity. It also provides members the opportunity to complete community service hours required for graduation.

Join the John Gray High School Junior Optimist Club as they meet every Tuesday at 12:30 pm on campus. For more information, contact President Patrice Hanson at 345-916-7241.
